How Will You Travel This Thanksgiving?

Thanks to relatively cheap prices, wireless Internet on board, and an increase in service-frequency, more Americans are hopping on the bus, rather than traveling by plane or car. Over the past year, intercity bus travel (think Greyhound) has increased by 9.8 percent, a growth rate higher than anything seen in the past 40 years.

Considering driving a car rules out multitasking, and flying includes long security lines, taking the bus doesn't seem so bad! It also has its green advantages — CO2 emissions dropped by 36,000 tons, and 3.48 million gallons of fuel were conserved in the past year. If you're traveling this Thanksgiving, what form of transportation did you choose?

We're going to be walking the mile and a half to the inlaw's house. Good because it gets us some exercise and because I plan on drinking quite a bit so I can get through the day!

I'm taking a break from loading up the car. We're heading 5 hours north, to my grandmother's house. I keep trying to remind myself that hosting the holiday is harder work than packing up and being a guest. I have so much left to do and clothes still in the dryer!

Oy, if I wanted to take the bus or the train to my parents' house, I would have had to leave on Sunday ... I love the train and I think there are some benefits to the bus, but they both take forever. Maybe on a more leisurely trip ...

I didn't make it last year so to insure my presence this year my family bought me a plane ticket. My older brother bought a house last year in Queen Creek AZ, talk about the boonies man. When I got here every one was holding on to their gun and their bible (joke!).

I had a screwed up time getting off the ground from San Francisco though. I was booked on (TED) however there is no ticket counter at SFO that has a sign that says Ted. So I'm walking around asking various security and airline employees where Ted airlines is. I'm pointed in this direction and that, still nothing. Finally I come across one of those automated check in computers and on the screen there is good old Ted. Next problem, it would not allow me to check in because it says I am too late for check in. I pick up the phone to speak to an agent in (India) and she reaffirms the statement that I am too late for check in. I said well I still have 30min. to get to the gate which was right around the corner literally. She directed me to go speak to a live agent at the Uni(ted) ticket counter. Finally get to the counter 10min. before departure and she tells me oh I'm sorry you're too late for your flight. Long story short they get me on a flight two hours later I arrive at Phoenix Sky Harbor take a two hour bus ride to Superstition Springs Mall to meet my brother who is waiting for me in a dirt field in his 18wheeler looking rough and coated with that lovely desert dust and hug him for the first time in five years. From the dirt field it was another 40min. out to Queen Creek.

Now I'm just relaxing with sisters, brother, brother in-law, nieces, nephews and grand nieces & nephews all of them except my brother here drove out from L.A. After what was certainly a most enduring effort to be here I can say with most confidence that I would do it all over again. It is so nice to be with family.

Oh and some how I've already found my self the new owner of a nine month old Bull Mastiff named Zeus. He'll be coming to live with me in the San Francisco in May.

Goodness hypno! You have earned yourself a cocktail.

I'm in good old St. Louis. It's a 40 minute flight from Chicago. I got here without any problems. The airports are kind of empty.

My boy will be driving me up home to NYC. We are in Philly so its not that bad of a car ride, 2 hours or so. I will probably be taking the train back though.

    Happy Thanksgiving to all! Smiling

My husband and I are driving up to NJ to be with my family. A good 7-8 hour drive with stops to let our dog do his business. I'm not looking forward to the drive, but definitely looking forward to the festivities!

By foot from my bedroom to my kitchen to my dinning room to my living room and finally back to my bedroom.

The only CO2 gases I'll be emitting will be those due to the mosh pit of food I consume Shocked)

I wouldn't mind taking a bus, but I'm leaving at 11 PM tonight because that's when my hubby will be home from work. So we're going in a car.

I plan to travel from my bed to the couch, once and a while to the bathroom, to the kitchen for quality time, to the dinner table, back to the couch, and finish with a light jaunt back to the bed.

Took the train to Grand Junction, CO to spend the holiday with my husband who has a gig. We're sitting in our hotel room, in pajamas... enjoying cable television!

Well my family are far away so I spent Thanksgiving out and about on a day off, had dinner (Mexican food..haha) with the boyfriend (and the most amazing drink I have ever had...its called a "Mrs. Hotness" and its like...a gently warm coffee/liqueur/chili chocolate drink with a cold cream top, served in a Martini glass..o..m..g..so good!).

So the travelling I did do was on foot, and by bus. But it was a nice day however untraditional it ended up being! I may break down and make a belated Thanksgiving dinner this weekend, probably a Brit/USA mishmash of roasted parsnips, dressing, Turkey roast breast and pumpkin pie (since I can get Libby's pumpkin here, woo hoo!)
