If you share a house with a dog or cat, you're likely dealing with some unwelcome side effects: pet hair on rugs and furniture, as well as dust bunnies in corners. Do you have this problem? If so, what do you do to counter it?

I do not have a pet anymore, my beagle didn't shed too horribly though. My next door neighbors have a pretty big dog. They tried the Pet Zoom, which they said worked pretty well. Also, the Fur Vac is supposed to clean up the fur pretty easily.

My animals shed so badly, I'm always covered. And no matter how much I brush them, or use the tape roller on my clothing, I'm always covered. It's so frustrating! I have to sweep constantly, and the furniture, forget it. I'm still looking for a solution furniture wise. I don't buy leather, which would be the best for combating the hair, so I'm still searching.

When we moved out of our apartment we found all sorts of cat hair under the bed and couch. My sister kept making fun of us for it but I wasn't going to move my bed every time I wanted to vacuum!

I voted that pet hair is everywhere, but I probably have less relative to others. I've never had a pet, but my roommate just got a small, short-haired dog. I'm very detail-oriented and quite the perfectionist/neat-freak, so all I can see are these little white dog hairs all over our dark brown couch. The texture of the couch cover makes the hairs really hard to just vacuum up, so I end up vacuuming everywhere at least once a week, and also using a lint brush on the couch. I've also asked my roommate not to let the dog run wild and shed all over the couch, which made me feel kinda bad, but hey, I need to be comfortable in my home and I can't really get comfy if I see dog hair everywhere.

Thank God for Yorkies - they don't shed! But, like macgirl, I shed more than the dog. My cat shed like crazy - he was white and I wear a lot of black - so I got in the habit of keeping lint rollers everywhere and rolling myself whenever I thought of it. He's been dead nearly 5 years and I STILL find his hair on things sometimes.

This is actually the only thing that has stopped me from getting a cat (which I desperately want). My sibling has 2 cats and a dog and the hair is literally everywhere. I change clothes before I go over there.

It drive me nuts, but I have to vacuum every day, there's no other way around it. I keep our dogs outside when the weather is nice, and that helps some, but it's awful in the winter.

My pup has golden retriever-like hair, and she tends to get itchy when it's long anyway, so I give her a buzz cut every few months. It's just enough to make her look naturally short-haired, she seems more comfortable and less fur all around!

We have two cats orange cats, but they don't shed much. However, we're visiting my MIL right now, and she also has two orange cats. Their hair is everywhere. Orange shows up on everything.

Three cats + any number of foster kittens = LOTS of pet hair! Our house is all hardwood (no carpets) so it collects in the corners, behind the couch, etc. We joke that we collect enough pet hair to build another cat

It's funny, I am cat-sitting between Nov. 5th and the 17th for my friend who is vacationing in Spain at the moment. But instead of visiting the cat, the cat is staying in my apartment! So for these twelve days, I've found that this tuxedo cat sheds only lightly, despite a coat of long thin strands of black and white hair.

I have a Maltese, they are considered hypo-allergenic, so, luckily, no shedding!

My sister's cat sheds too - a lot! You can try using a vacuumm to pick it up, but I find it doesn't really work. What does are lint rollers... Better yet, if you have rolls of packing tape, duct tape, masking tape (the wider the better) & tear off strips. Use it to "lift" the fur off carpets, clothing, furniture, etc. Granted, they can be expensive ($5-10.00 per roll), but if you get them from dollar/thrift stores they can be as cheap as 99 cents each. Give it a try!

Ha! I have a Shiba Inu (small version of an Akita) he sheds twice yearly his undercoat and you would not belive how much fur can come off a 15 lb dog! It's insane at least its only twice yearly but his fur is so thick right now i'm terrified for when he sheds again. I'm totally with Jasmint though in that i cannot sit on the couch and watch tv if I see fur My fave thing is my Dirtdevil cordless kone love it. Did I also mantion I have two fuzzy cats as well?

After 9 years of loving 2 labs, my husband developed a strong allergy to dogs. We made some changes, and now he has virtually no symtoms. (Provided he washes his hands after petting.) I bring solutions: It was a bit of an investment to get our house hair and dander free...But I love my dogs and my husband, and there is the added benefit that my house is now clean!

It's awful with a dog and two cats. The dog is old and his hair is falling out in clumps now! We just have to vaccum every day. Our Oreck gets all the hair up easily. I have switched from dark to light furniture and rugs (though all the new stuff is stain-resistant). the hair is a lot more visible now, but I didn't realize how bad the situation was before --- a friend would come over and sit on the dark rug (which looked clean from afar) and get hair all over her clothes!
